If you are new to writing you might wonder what to write about. You need to find your niche subject.

If you have a website then you will automatically have a subject that you can write about if you haven't then you need to find a topic. Ask yourself what you are passionate about or what your hobbies are. Ideally it should be something you feel inspired about. Whether you feel strongly about a subject can influence how you write. If you dislike something then you can write about that or if you love something then again you can write about that. I hope that this helps.

Good tips there, Mickie. It's more clear to the reader than you would imagine whether or not you have a genuine interest in the subject matter. Sometimes it's necessary to write about a topic you don't have much interest in. Rather than looking at it as being a chore, see it as a way to expand your research skills and knowledge base. Just give it your best shot!

I agree, Serenity; if you are writing about something you know nothing about, your research skills will get a tuning-up, and you'll learn something as well. There are several subjects that I had to write about of which I cared little and knew nothing. Having to do a good amount of research made me realise that I had learned almost in spite of myself! Although it was painful at the time, it was definitely worth it, and I have been able to write successive articles on the knowledge I gained.

Good point, Mickie31. Especially if you're just starting to try your hand in writing. But as Senerity just pointed out, it will be great to extend your writing out of your comfort zone. It'll be good for everyone!

Very good point. It's so important to write about something that you care about. You are more likely to be knowledgeable about it, and your enthusiasm will be contagious.

This is a good tip for any area of writing. The type of writing I do never allows me to choose the subject and many times just finding information is difficult. When you write about what you know you can just write and then clean up in the editing stage.

Having a passion for what you write also comes across to the reader. It makes your work easier to read and more enjoyable to read.

Great information! Many people start out thinking they can write about any topic, that is until they are given the topic and start drawing a blank! Find your niche and stick within that category and you'll find your works to be much more rewarding and highly rated. Its fine to have several "niche" categories too. So long as it is something you have a genuine interest in and are knowledgeable about it then you should do great!

I write articles for other people (and pay), and they're usually not about anything I really care about. Then, though, I'll write about things in which I have genuine interest on my own. I approach each type of task completely differently.

When I'm writing about something for someone else I know not to even expect to have all that much interest. Sometimes I may pick up some interest as I go along, but other times I just aim to accomplish what the person wants and keep in mind that it isn't about me getting any reward other than pay. Lowering the expectations can help put things in perspective.

I have to write about the subjects I am given, it is surprising how often I find that they are more interesting than I expected. I think it is good to have the challenge of writing about unfamiliar subjects.
