Decades ago jobs for writers are usually limited to just being a columnist, novelist, journalist, editor etc. Those positions would usually provide only leeway for the writers to get their writings published and get their name prominent.

However, what most of us never realized is the fact that there are many works out there that need writings. Whether it is a simple minutes of meeting or documents or proposal or needs a good skill of writing. So jobs for writers do not just limit to printing media, it involves more of our daily lives.

Now with the advancing technologies the communication system, jobs for writers are expanding yet to a wider range of markets. Companies are competing with each other to make an impressive websites. Yes, with graphics and animations effects, the websites might look good, but they still need copy writers and content writers that can make they company looks incredible in the eyes of the beholder.

Besides websites, internet has also serve as a platform to invite more writers to become freelance to write for blogs or research papers etc. People get to communicate easier across the globe, hence the there are all sorts of requirements flying around the air, looking for the most suitable writers that are fit for the job. Now, the authors can even see their works get published more easily. Some companies are even willing to give a handsome payment for those articles.

Though with many jobs for writers get posted in the internet, the competitions are getting stiffer as well. That is because the competition is not just among the country inside but from around the globe as well. This is because everybody can be a writer – young or old, students of retirees, working class people or housewives,

Now the companies even come out with a search engine solely for the searching for online writers’ jobs. All job seekers get the chances to bid and persuade the client to give them the job rather than anybody else. No matter what, the chances are still plenty. Writers would still hunting for jobs easier in the online jobs postings.

Most of the writing vacancies require the writers to comply with certain requirements which are very crucial for the client. As most of the time the relationships between the clients and the writers are fragile, jobs provided for the writers would end at any point of the business merely because they do not comply with the client’s requirements.

Jobs for writers are always challenging. Every piece of the writing would always have something to tell, no matter it is in black and white or behind those words. Due to the requirements from the client are different and constantly changing, the writers must always be ready to write anything under the sun. However, with the help from the internet, getting sources of information had already been made easy for the writers.

I found many freelance jobs online for writers on oDesk and Get-A-Freelancer sites. There have been many other sources for writers online too but only requires a little bit of googling.

Some are more reliable than others but a quick Google search really does turn up the best results in most cases. Local papers and Craiglist are also good bets for people looking out for freelance writing positions.

Aye, Google is your friend as long as you can shuffle through the sites and find out which are scams and which are genuine.

I just tried to get a job through oDesk and the site seems good enough but not many good jobs and the ones I would like have all been applied for by sweatshop workers offering to work for below min wage for massive amounts of work.
Also the one screenwriting gig I wanted, I had to sign up and I tried to apply and they say I have to take a test and so I was like okay but it's oDesk's test and it is an hour? Oh my I have a problem with that as I like to spend my time writing and after if you pass no job is guaranteed. Feedback please!!!

On of the best places I have found for just starting freelance are site like Demand Studios (http://www.demandstudios.com/) for people that are just starting out. It is for writing eHow stuff and pays well for starting writers. Another place for hunting freelance jobs is http://www.freelancewriting.com/freelance-writing-jobs.php - This is a site with a lot of places to look for jobs.

I joined EHow and wrote an article then found out it was for American people only. Unfortunately they do not pay English writers. I have written for Mylot before, but it is only good for beginner writers because it doesn't push you the same. The best thing you can do is start a blog that way you can contribute to it on a daily basis where you can practise your writing. Forums like this are also good because you can write articles and contribute to discussions. In the beginning any writing is good just keep writing as much as you can because then you get used to it.

Wise words there, Mickie! Smile

Mickie, I took a look at MyLot and can't see anything that says what they pay. They coyly say that "earnings are calculated based on a proprietary model that rewards quality responses, relevant discussions and images." but that's not exactly helpful.

Is there any chance you could give me an idea on what can be expected roughly please for decent posts/discussions? If you don't mind, it would be most helpful. I don't want to sign up if it's not really worthwhile. If you don't want to, that's ok. Smile

I have seen some jobs on Craig's List but as they haven't been quite what I wanted I didn't reply to any queries. Helium is a place to brush up your technique and write reviews, columns, opinion, etc, but the pay they say you will earn some fine day never seems to come. Deborah Ng runs a very nice freelance board.

If you have some friends who are already doing freelance, don't be shy; ask them about where and how they are getting work. When writing a query letter it doesn't hurt to mention your friend. I did that once and was hired straight-away; they basically said, "Anyone who is a friend of X is a friend of mine!"

Nice one, mollyL! I also do that one and it brings some very positive results, indeed! I've also found a lot of legit projects in Craigslist but as anyone says, just be careful in dealing with people you don't know. Do your research before plunging into something.

I've tried all mentioned above. eHow (demand studios), myLot, oDesk, etc. My favorites are eHow and Constant-Content.

They pay the best in my opinion. myLot is a waste of my time. I haven't had any luck with the freelance writing sites. It takes up time to bid and work out the terms, etc.

eHow is currently offering me $1 to refer new writers, so if you are in the US and you want to sign up for the writer compensation program, you might help me out in the process. Smile

I did a squidoo lens on writing for eHow. It talks about how much I make and it gives tips for maximizing your earnings if anyone is interested. Also, I just set up the lens tonight and it is rough. Feel free to critique the lens if you wish. http://www.squidoo.com/WriteEHow
