I would like to share to everyone some useful information about writing a good essay.
Here are some guidelines:
1. Answer the question.
2. Clear structure and appropriate style.
3. Clarity of thought.
4. Wide reading and understanding.
5. Originality. |

In response to this I would just like to add. Get to know the question and consider writing it out using different words. Get to know the question inside and out then you know what the tutor is looking for and can link your writing back to the question. This will keep your assignment relevant. Make sure you have plenty of time to structure your essay and that you know how you are going to get from A to B and back. Writing an essay is like taking a journey and usually you would take a map with you it is the same with essay writing you have to know how you are going to get to the end. Make sure that all your points are clear and understandable. It might be alright that you understand them, but if a complete stranger picked up your essay would they understand it? Write clearly and precisely. Include lots of detail as though you are describing something to an alien. Use lots of references as this shows that you have read widely, but only use them if they are relevant and always cite them in the body of your text. |

Well, you need to do know the question first before you can answer it. The structure and style will vary with the subject matter. As for clarity of thought, if you do yours research you should have a clear idea of what to write. This would also include your reading and understanding of the material. I believe originality comes from the heart. If you know what you're subject matter is and have done as much research as possible then you should be able to write just about anything. |

Having a lot of research under your belt definitely helps to write smoothly. If you're impeded by having to look up references and keep reading in order to know your points then the writing is going to reflect that with a stilted reading. |

If you sit down and try to write the thing straight through, you aren't likely to have much luck. Take your time and don't wait till the last minute! |
