Do you consider blogging a form of writing? I know most blog posts are very informal posts and rarely pay detailed attention to the proper usages and structures of the English Language as people can start any blog they like at any time. After all, they are doing it for fun and a way to express their freedoms, stress or opinions to the world!

Yes I consider it a valid form of writing. You have made some sweeping assumptions about blogs. I follow a number of blogs and all are well written, in standard English with interesting content. I put a lot of time and effort into my own blog and I take a pride in it. There are plenty of blogs that I wouldn't bother to read, but that is the joy of the internet, I don't have to read them. By the way some blogs generate a decent income, so it is not all done for fun.

Yes I do consider this a valid form of writing. It is a good way for those who are not able to write as well to get experience doing that. Also, it is a good discussion tool.

I agree with flower horn in some ways because I have also found some blogs that are written in the easy style without the use of proper english...but there are also many who have used their blogs as a source of expression and do write some beautiful stuff there...so it is really a mixed bag and depends on who is writing he blog...finally a good blog always gets more readers.....

I think it is as valid as any other form of writing. Certain newspapers are notorious for their unconventional use of English yet they have a wide circulation. Many blogs are well written and they have a large readership, others may not be as polished but if they encourage the writers to write regularly I think they are useful.

Yes, for the most part, I do. Even those posts that aren't completely formal or full of thought-provoking content.....they're still writing, putting thoughts down, and getting into the habit of using written words on a regular basis. I've met some absolutely amazing writers out there, too, and they certainly don't all write the same way. I wouldn't dare discredit their writing, just because it might not fit a certain standard elsewhere.

I don't care where you are writing, if you are putting thoughts onto paper, you are writing. I am new to blogging, although I've been a ghost writer/freelancer for around 2 years now. I am paid to blog on a new blog site and I love being able to put my thoughts out there for PAY Smile I certainly think blogging is a great way to write and also get things out of your head!

I write one of my blogs every day, I think the discipline of having to write interesting content is good for me. I have certain rules for the way I write on each of my blogs and I try and stick to a certain style for each one, so I don't let my emitions run away with me.

Blogging is one of the truest forms of writing to me. Similar to a diary entry or the deep inner thoughts of the mind.

AngelicWriter a blog can be like that but there are many different kinds of blog and there are a lot of very good blogs that are not written in that way.

Yes that's certainly true! I just finished a ghost writing job which was a blog. The blog is not a daily entry, more like a weekly I'd say from what I saw and its informational. This particular one was about new products for nursing mothers. There are literally billions of different blog styles I'd imagine.

Yes, I have written for several blogs in the past, none have been journal type blogs, most have been subject specific, some are a marketing tool, some are aimed at collectors or enthusiasts and some generate income through advertising etc. Blog writing should not be under estimated, some blogs generate very high daily traffic and many have a lot of regular readers.

If you look carefully, you will find that there are a lot of blogs that are of top quality. You can find very correct and good English. And you can find them full of useful information. I think it depends on the person who writes the blog what it is like.

Nevertheless, my honest opinion is that blogging is a very good form of writing. It has a lot of freedom and it can be as correct and as good as any other form of writing.

Blogging is writing easily and quickly made public. Not every short story or novella gets accepted in a magazine or trade publication, and not every novel gets published. Blogs make it possible for people who are good writers to shine instead of being ignored. Though there is an argument to be made that there are too many blogs and thus too many voices, there is also the argument that too many blogs and too many voices makes it possible for more ideas and POVs to be shared.

I don't follow any blogs at the moment, but I've seen some interesting ones that I'd say were a form of formal writing.

I think I could probably find at least an equal number that I wouldn't necessarily refer to as writing in the sense that I usually imagine it.

Maybe blogs serve to broaden that definition?

Taggart that's right the term blog covers so many types of writing, some are well developed, well written and they generate a good income and at the other end of the scale some just fulfil some theraputic function for the writer.

I definately consider blogging to be a form of writing. It may be informal, but blogs are a great way to share and find information. They can be great resources.

Yes I do consider blogging a form of writing simply because when people state their opinions in an essay format or really in any format they are simply creating an op-ed. Op-eds are considered writing. So much so that they are included in text books to teach students how to wrrite them and many teachers require students to write one for a grade. So you can see where it would be writing.
Also, it is a form of writing because you are puttoing words down, not nessacerly on paper but it is putting them down for the record in some way or form.
